If you're going to dream, you might as well dream big; indeed, if the dream appears a good one, Dream Extreme. Now that I've conceived my own school, as well as the bigger Center of which it's a part, it's time to reinvent the work schedule. In my dream I'm splitting work and free time down the middle...
For instance, in a seven day week, 3 & 1/2 days are works days, and 3 & 1/2 days are free days. In a 52 week year, 26 weeks are work weeks, and 26 weeks are free weeks.
Thus the academic year at Manitou Movie School and the Colorado Center for Creative Studies consists of two 13-week terms as follows...
Autumn Term: Begins the week after Labor Day and ends mid-December (with full week breaks for both Halloween and Thanksgiving, and a four-week post-term Winter Break)
Winter/Spring Term: Begins mid-January and continues to Memorial Day weekend (there's a two-week Spring Break at the end of March, while the month of May is dedicated to various end-of-school-year events where we share the various projects we've been working on as well as celebrate our accomplishments with music, dance, and other festivities.
While this schedule may appear slacker extraordinaire (indeed, we are sometimes called the Colorado Center for Creative Slacking), keep in mind that much "free time" is dedicated to labors of love, like spending time with family, traveling, more intensive project work, and following our various blisses beyond professional life.
So what do you think about the Center? Is it something you would help create?
